2008 was my first real year of serious showing and I was really pleased with the results.
My best award was ‘Best Ram Lamb’ in the Longwool section at the Suffolk Show, which resulted in a ‘Reserve Champion’ award for best male in that section. I also got a 2nd Place for my beautiful black ewe lamb called Ebony. I am hoping to take these two back to the shows this year, both will be shown as shearlings in full wool.
I was also awarded several further placings, 3rd s, 4th s & 5th s, at the various other shows I attended, the Royal Norfolk, the Tendring Hundred show and the South Suffolk Show at Bury. I hope to convert these to higher placings in the 2009 round of showing.
There is an incredible amount of work involved in getting the sheep ready to show – can you imagine just sitting for hours on end, picking out grass seeds from those amazing coats? Not for the faint-hearted!
